Poland in the Rockies

This past July I attended a unique conference in Alberta on a variety of topics relating to Polish history and culture. Wanda Urbanska, one of the presenters, summarizes the event well on her blog. It got me thinking about how nations are constructed from collections of people identifying themselves with sets of historical truisms. This ongoing process of community story-telling produces the imaginary life of a nation. Poland in the Rockies supplied me with dozens of interesting, inspiring and sometimes disturbing anecdotes with which to build my own personal Poland.
